Fixed braces

A fixed appliance consists of individual metal or tooth coloured brackets which are placed onto each tooth with special dental glue. A thin archwire is placed onto the brackets and, as the wire tries to return to its original shape, it applies pressure to move your teeth. The archwire is bent to reflect your "ideal" smile.

In other words, it reflects the way we want you to look after treatment. The wires are held into position by elastic modules which are placed around the brackets on the teeth. The modules can be coloured or clear for low visibility.

Metal braces are the most popular with kids and teenagers. They love using different colours on their brace. These braces are much smaller than ever before.

Translucent (white) ceramic braces are the most popular with adults and also older children.

  • You have to be very close to someone to be able to see them.
  • They won’t affect your speech as they are fitted outside of your teeth.
  • They can be removed for an upcoming event (e.g. wedding) and replaced again after.
